You’ll feel confident approaching the dynamic demands for a Community Service Worker after gaining highly-focused training and experience in counseling skills, life span development, social science and social work theory and practice.

You’ll learn how to help people to promote their rights and meet their responsibilities in ways that empower them. This course will focus on addressing multicultural backgrounds, disability, gender, sexual orientation, family issues, substance abuse, etc. Students will acquire the necessary abilities to accomplish the following tasks:

  • Create and maintain a helping relationship
  • Apply effective communication and interactive skills
  • Assess individual, family, group or community needs
  • Set goals and develop appropriate intervention methods
  • Implement strategies to increase client’s problem-solving abilities
  • Identify and mobilize community resources relevant to client’s need
